Charitable Donations

The Island annually donates 3 to 4 percent of earnings to philanthropic causes. We support over 70 local non-profit organizations through cash gifts and volunteer work.

Employee Giving

Island employees donated thousands of dollars to area agencies assisting San Diegans through the United Way campaign. In addition, The Island encourages employees to give back to their communities by offering paid time off for volunteer work.

Youth and Education Programs

North Island is strongly committed to supporting youth and education causes, consistently providing financial and human resources to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Rady Children's Hospital, YMCA, and the San Diego Union-Tribune's It Just Add$ Up Literacy Campaign, and Junior Achievement among others.

Supporting our Military

Originally founded in 1940 to serve San Diego's military community, North Island continues to serve San Diego's sailors and marines by supporting the Fleet Week Foundation as a four star sponsor, to pay tribute and thanks San Diego's military service men and women.

Protecting the Environment

  • We have been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification for our new "green" headquarters, completed in 2009
  • We offer and encourage the use of paperless e-Statements and Online Bill Pay to save trees.

Returned Earnings

Unlike a bank, all earnings are returned to members - not shareholders - in the form of lower loan rates, higher interest rates on deposits, and lower fees. This is money that stays in the local San Diego community.
