Filing a Credit Dispute
If you are concerned about the accuracy of credit report information pertaining to an account with us, you may file a dispute directly with us.
The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) gives you the right to file a dispute directly with North Island Credit Union when you are concerned about the accuracy of the information contained in a credit report that pertains to an account with us.
Credit Report Discrepancies We Cannot Resolve
To resolve any of the following types of discrepancies, you must contact the credit reporting agencies as we will be unable to assist you:
- Your identifying consumer information such as name, social security number, telephone number and address.
- Your past or present employers.
- An inquiry or request for a credit report.
- A matter of public record such as judgments, bankruptcies, liens or other legal matters.
- A fraud alert or active duty alert.
- An inquiry or request about information provided by another lender.
- A request that is submitted or prepared by a credit repair organization.
Valid credit reporting agencies are: Equifax, Experian, TransUnion
Filing a Dispute Directly with Us
Your dispute must be signed and in writing and include the following:
- Sufficient information to identify the account that is in dispute, such as your name, address, telephone number and the account number that is in dispute
- Specific information that you are disputing and an explanation of the basis of your dispute.
- All supporting documentation to substantiate the basis of your dispute which may include a police report, copy of the relevant portion of the credit report, court order, etc.

When you have collected all of the relevant information that substantiates your dispute, you may submit your request directly to the credit union.

When you file a credit dispute directly with us, we will conduct a reasonable investigation concerning your claim. This investigation will include a review of the relevant information that you have provided. We will complete our investigation within the timelines allowed - generally within 30 days. If our investigation determines that a credit union error has been made, we will notify the credit bureaus and provide them with the accurate information to correct the account.
