North Island Credit Union Recognized for Ethical Business Practices
12/12/2007 - North Island receives 2007 Better Business Bureau Torch Award.
North Island Credit Union was honored for ethical business practices by the San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB) at the 2007 Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics on December 4. North Island Credit Union was the only winner in the 250-499 employees category.
The Torch Awards is the BBB's annual awards program that honors outstanding local for-profit companies and nonprofits charitable organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to ethical business practices, both in operations and in terms of being ethical reliable and responsive to employees, vendors and customers.
Each year, thousands of U.S. businesses are entered in local Torch Award competitions conducted by BBB's in every region of the country. As a winner from the San Diego competition, North Island's entry will be forwarded to the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the parent organization for the BBB network, for an international competition. A total of 8 local San Diego businesses were selected as winners in their categories while 12 others were recognized as finalists.
"North Island Credit Union was recognized for its strong commitment to a culture that promotes business ethics, as demonstrated in the responses from an independent employee opinion survey which featured questions on organizational ethics and integrity," said Geri Dillingham, executive vice president and chief operating officer of North Island Credit Union. The application also recognized The Island's efforts this past spring to proactively communicate televised consumer alerts regarding phishing and vishing scams being sent to San Diego residents falsely using the credit union's name and logo.
