  1. Educate yourself on the latest identity theft schemes such as phishing and vishing that target North Island Credit Union members and non-members alike
  2. Never send credit card numbers, account numbers, PIN codes, social security numbers, or any other personal information that you do not want publicly exposed in a standard e mail. Any information sent in a standard e mail is never secure.
  3. Be highly suspicious when prompted to provide personal financial information over the phone. Hang up immediately and contact your credit union or financial institution directly to verify the validity of the message.
  4. We offer secure messaging for our Online Banking members that wish to contact us electronically. Personal or account information may be included through this form of messaging. For account specific inquiries, sign on to Online Banking and click Send a Secure Message under the Self Service tab.
  5. When you sign on to Online Banking, always verify that your PassMark image and phrase is present before you enter your password.
  6. Be wary of clicking on a link in an email to our website. We recommend typing www.myisland.com directly into the address bar of your browser or use a bookmark to visit our website. If you do click on a link in an e mail, you should verify that you are at the correct website by examining the web site's address in the web browser's address bar.
  7. We recommend the use of Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2 and that you enable the anti phishing tools built into these browsers.
  8. Switch to e-Statements to lower your risks of identity theft and mail fraud.
