Who can become a member of North Island Credit Union?

There are two kinds of membership—individual and business. Anyone living or working in San Diego, Riverside, or Orange counties—and their family members—are eligible for individual membership. Businesses that are headquartered in San Diego county can become member businesses.

What is the difference between My Island and Business at The Island?

My Island is North Island Credit Union's website geared to individual members, with financial services and information geared to help you and your family—home mortgages, personal checking, savings, and loan accounts, managing personal finances, etc.

Business at The Island is our website offering business loans, commercial property loans, analyzed checking, payroll management, and other services geared to help small-to-medium sized businesses.

Do I have to signon to use your websites?

No. You can visit all the general information and public pages of our website—even apply for loans—without logging on. However, to view personal account data like your statements and checks, and to use online banking, you must identify yourself and your accounts by signing on.

How do I register for MyIslandBanking?

Click here to go to the online banking information page of My Island and enroll. You may select personal or business enrollment—choose the option that applies to you.

Can I use the same Username and Password for both My Island and Business at The Island websites?

For information about viewing multiple accounts online see "Why can’t I access my accounts online?"

What do I do if I forget my Signon ID?

Contact the Online Desk at 800/848-5654, press option "7".

What do I do if I forget my password?

After validating your Signon ID, click the "I forgot my password" link to reset your password.

Why do you need my e-mail address?

E-mail is how we communicate with you about the My Island website and notify you when your statement is ready for viewing.

Why do I need to log off?

It's always best to end your visit to MyIslandBanking by clicking on the "Logout" link in the upper-right corner of the page and closing your browser.

How do I change my email address?

Signon to My Island and click on the "Self-Service" button. Under "Personal Information" select "Change E-Mail address."

What is the difference between a primary and a joint account holder?

While both account holders have complete access to joint accounts for making withdrawals and deposits, for tax and other governmental purposes, one person was designated as the primary account holder when the account was opened.

It is the primary’s Social Security Number or Tax ID that is "assigned" to the account. And, it is this number, along with the account number, that must be used when registering to perform transactions on your accounts or view statements and checks on the website.

How do I get access to my statements if I am a joint account holder?

Just register on the site, providing the primary account holder’s Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax ID associated with the account you want to view. Any other accounts associated with the same Tax ID also will be visible to you. Remember that as a joint account holder, using your own SSN or Tax ID will not work.

Can I apply for membership online?

Yes. Click "Applications" at the left side of any web page and choose "Membership Application."

  • Follow the pop-up screen prompts to the application form, and then print and complete it
  • You can mail the application to us with your initial deposit (if applicable) and copies of your identification documents. It will take us one business day to process your application after it is received.
  • Or, you can take your application to any branch for immediate attention
  • Can I apply for an account online?

Definitely! Click "Applications" at the left side of any web page and choose your desired loan or deposit account. If you’re already a member, we may be able to save you an in-person appearance by transferring your opening deposit from another account, using current open-end loan authorizations, and exchanging required documents by fax, mail, or E-mail, as applicable.

Can I pay my credit card bill online?

Yes, individual members can make payments directly to our Visa credit card provider, First Bankcard. Visit www.directcardaccess.com to manage your credit card account online.

Why does my statement balance differ from my balance in MyIslandBanking?

MyIslandBanking reflects current balances while your statements reflect past balances, as of the date of your statement (the "Statement Date" appears in the upper right corner of each page).

Can I change from paper to e-Statements for my accounts?

Sure! Signon to online banking from the homepage and click the "Statements" button. Then click on "Change your statement delivery options" link.

How does the site menu system work?

The main menus are at the top of your screen, with "buttons" on the left for frequently used services like online banking, current rate information, and contacting us.

  • When you click on a menu item at the top, a new page appears which summarizes the products or services available. Further menus also display at the top so you can click and go directly to these products and services.
  • Click the "Search" button from the main menu (top right corner) for a Search & Site Map of My Island.
  • One of the most innovative site features is "Contact Us" that lets you search by product or service, and with one click displays all your contact and information options.
  • How can I search the site for information?

Click the "Search" button from the main menu (top right corner) for a Search & Site Map of My Island.

Why can't I access my accounts online?

There could be a number of reasons why some or all of your accounts are unavailable:

  • First of all, you must register for Online Banking access at My Island. Provide the primary account holder’s Social Security Number or Tax ID. If you are a joint account holder, using your Social Security Number will not work.
  • Some accounts may not be visible to you because they might be listed under a different Social Security Number or Tax ID. This frequently happens when a couple opens different accounts over the years with each person acting as the primary account holder for different accounts. In this case, you must create another logon for yourself with the appropriate Social or Tax ID for the account(s) you wish to access.
  • If you had access, but suddenly do not, the site might be undergoing routine maintenance. Please try again later.
  • Why can't I see my investment accounts online?

Mutual funds, annuities, and securities are administered by third-party brokerages. Each of them maintains your records on their own computer systems. While you, as an account holder, often can view this information on the brokerage site, your information is not shared with the credit union.

When do I need to create more than one Signon ID?

For security purposes, each signon can only be linked to one Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax ID. If you hold some personal accounts jointly (under another’s SSN), some individually (under your SSN), and also have business accounts (under the business’ Tax ID), you would need to create three different signons to access all your online statements and checks. A good rule of thumb: you will need a logon for each SSN or Tax ID associated with your Island accounts.

I received a popup "Security Alert" that said that I was being redirected to a connection that was unsecure. What does this mean? Is my information still secure?

This message is produced by your web browser and is talking about the web connection, not your information. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that all of your personal information is secure at all times. New browser versions understand the distinction between the security of the connection and the information and do not give this "Security Alert." You may want to upgrade to the latest version of your browser by clicking here.

How do I access my statements from more than one account?

For efficiency, we provide statements listing more than one account. After you register and input tax ID and account information, you will see all accounts linked to that tax ID.

You can’t access statements for accounts where you don’t have signing authority—if, for example, you are a beneficiary, designated to receive funds upon the death of the account owner.

If you are a business, as well as an individual member, you’ll need to register your business accounts separately using your firm’s Tax ID to access your business accounts.

When selecting statements to view, why are there multiple accounts listed on the left, but only one drop-down selection on the right?

There are statements which display multiple accounts. These are the accounts on the left. To call up the statement that displays these accounts, select the date you are interested in from the drop-down menu.

How far back can I view my statements and checks?

Six months of statements (and the checks therein) will be available online. Of course, you can always get any of your statements and checks at a branch, or by calling the Contact Center (nominal fees may apply).

If you think you might need statements for archival purposes, you can save copies of your statements to your local PC. Just select the "Printer Friendly Version" button at the top of the statements page, then select the "save" icon to save the file to your PC.

How do I view my checks?

If your check has cleared since your last statement:

First, signon to MyIslandBanking. From the Account Balances page select the checking account from which the check was written. Click on any of the red check numbers and a window will pop up showing the front and the back of that check. If you wish, you may print the images.

If your check cleared on or before your last statement date:

In MyIslandBanking, click the "Statements" button. Then select the statement date that would have the check you are looking for. When the statement displays, click on any of the red check numbers. A window will pop up showing the front and the back of that check. If you wish, you may print the images.

Can I print my online statement?

Sure! We even have a printer-friendly version that will look much cleaner when you print it out. Simply click on the "Printer Friendly Version" button at the top of the statement display page.

How do I use the available MyIslandBanking functions such as account inquiries and transfers?

After you signon click the "Help" link (top right corner) for assistance with the various online banking features.

The Online Banking Signon box located on the homepage does not ask for my Password, only my Username. Why?

For increased security, there is a two-step process to signon to access your accounts and statements. After your signon ID is validated from the homepage, you will be taken to a "PassMark" verification page. This page may verify your identity through the use of "Challenge Questions" (that only you should know), a unique "Sitekey" image (chosen by you) and your password. You will choose your unique questions and image when you first register for online banking.

How do I change my PassMark "Challenge Questions" and/ or "Sitekey" image?

Signon to My Island and click on the "Self-Service" button. Under "Personal Information" select "Manage PassMark Security Profile" to change your challenge questions, or select "Manage your Passmark Sitekey" to change your unique sitekey image.

Can I access my Business Accounts through the MyIslandBanking feature?

Yes. After you register and establish a Signon ID for your Business Accounts, signon to MyIslandBanking (either from My Island homepage or Business at The Island homepage). Just be sure to select the "Business" radio button when you signon.

How does e-mailed notification of statements work?

    It’s very simple:

  • The Island sends you an e-mail, which contains a link to the MyIslandBanking Signon page.
  • After you signon, select the "Statements" button to view current and past statements.
  • Do I have to signon again to go to the rest of the Island website?

No. After you signon from the e-mail notification link, you’ll see a link to "MyIslandHome". Selecting this will take you to the home page. If you are done and do not wish to continue surfing on the Island site, simply close your browser window.

Which will I receive faster, mailed paper statements or online statements?

Online statements, no contest. With online statements, there are no mailing service or postal delays.

When is my new online statement ready for viewing?

Your statement cycles does not change, so your online statement will be prepared at the same time during the month that your paper statement was prepared. Of course, with email notification, you'll probably be able to review your online statement days earlier than if a paper statement were mailed.

Are online statements as secure as mailed statements?

Probably more secure. Paper mail can be stolen, but your e-mail goes only to you. And even if someone read your e-mail and clicked the link to your online statement, they still would need your Username and Password to access your statement.

Will I still get paper statements mailed to me?

No, there’s no need! It’s easy, and takes up very little space, to save your electronic statements on your computer. Or, if you wish to print an online statement to your home or office printer, just click on "Printer Friendly Statement." And, if you ever need a paper copy down the road, The Island can make a copy for you for a nominal fee (see Rates, Fees and Charges).

If I want to go back to receiving paper statements by mail, can I?

You can, but with all the convenience and speed of online statements, you won’t want to. To revert to paper statements signon to MyIslandBanking and select the "Statements" button. Then select the "Change your statement delivery options" link and make your selection.

What equipment or software do I need to view my statements?
You can use any PC or Macintosh computer that has an Internet connection and can run the following software:

  • Any e-mail account (so we can notify you when your statement is ready)
  • An Internet browser capable of 128 encryption for security (Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, or Netscape Navigator 6.0 or higher, for example)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (to download your statement for printing)
  • Graphics must be "enabled" on your PC to view the statements
  • Most computers come with the above software already installed. In addition, versions of all this software can be downloaded free of charge from the internet.

I have disabled graphics on my computer. How can I enable "graphics" so I can access e-Statements?

In most browsers, look under the menu item, "Tools," and locate the selection for "Options" or "Preferences." You'll then need to look under the "Advanced" tab and select the checkbox that says, "Show Pictures."

How long are my statements available online?

Statements are available for online viewing for six months. You always can save your online statements to your computer and store them for long-term access (a good idea). If you need a paper copy down the road, The Island can make a copy for you for a nominal fee (see Rates, Fees and Charges).

Can I access MyIslandBanking from work as well as from home?

Yes, even from a cyber cafe. MyIslandBanking is accessible anywhere you have Internet access. Just signon to MyIslandBanking from the homepage. For security purposes, you will be asked a "Challenge Question" to validate your identity when you sign on from a public computer. Always be sure to log out and close your browser when you are done.

Do I need any specific hardware or software to get the best performance at My Island?

The Island's site has been designed with compatibility in mind. It will display properly with all of the current major browsers, and their most widely used versions. Screen displays of 800 x 600 or higher are recommended. In addition, the site is showcased best when using the most current version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. To download the latest version click here.

Why do I need a password?

A password is one of many ways we protect your identity and protect your private information from unauthorized access.

    What makes a good password?

The ideal password is easy for you to remember and impossible for others to guess. Valid passwords must be at least six characters and have at least one alpha and one numeric digit. Passwords are case sensitive.

Don't choose a password that others who know you might easily guess, such as your nickname, the name of a relative or pet, your birth date, address, social security number; favorite sports team, or hobby.

Is it safe to give and receive private information over the Internet?

We take our responsibility for protecting your personal information seriously. Our electronic databases are protected by software from electronic intrusion, and are duplicated offsite for recovery, if needed.

Each signon is electronically compared to our database. If you’re not a member, someone only can see general information about our products and services, but nothing about specific accounts.

What can I do to increase the level of Internet security at home or work?

Good security is two sided. We have done our utmost to safeguard your information on our computers. Here is what you can do at home, work, or at public computer sites like Internet cafes:

  • Never share your passwords with others, and don’t leave a record of them where anyone can find and use them.
  • Log off ANY site you log on to. Most sites log you off if there is no activity after some period of time. But, when you log off yourself, the site resets immediately. No one can come in behind you, call up the site, and access your logon. Remember, it's always best to click the "log off" button before closing your browser window to ensure the security of your information.
  • Make sure to log off MyIslandBanking and close your browser when you are finished.
  • If you print a statement, or check, a file is saved in the Temporary Internet directory on your computer. This is true for all Internet credit card, banking, and shopping sites. For maximum security, you can clear this directory using your browser (for Internet Explorer: Tools, Internet Options, General tab, choose "Delete Files" under "Temporary Internet files")
